Allison Lawrence is the Principal and CEO of The Capitol Strategies Group, LLC and adjunct faculty at Reynolds Community College in the School of Business. She represents businesses and organizations with issues before the Virginia state legislature and regulatory agencies. She has experience in matters related to healthcare, K-12, higher education, and telecommunications. As a government affairs professional, Allison has first-hand experience working with legislators, agency heads, and members of the Governor’s administration to transform policy initiatives into legislative solutions. In addition to Allison’s legislative work, she also represents clients with matters relating to business expansion in the Commonwealth of Virginia often working closely with state and local governments. Allison also continues to fundraise for candidates for elected office, offers campaign strategy, plans and coordinates fundraising events, as well as event development and management.
Prior to Allison's legislative work, she previously served as the finance director for the Democratic Party of Virginia. In September 2012, she served as a lead for activities relating to the Virginia Delegation's participation in the National Democratic Convention in Charlotte, N.C. She was also responsible for the state party's major fundraising event, the Jefferson-Jackson Day Dinner. Allison also served as deputy caucus director for the House Democratic Caucus where she oversaw and coordinated activities, events, and fundraising for Democratic members and candidates of the Virginia House of Delegates.
Before Allison started a career in politics, she worked as a Research Associate at M. H. West & Co., Inc. and performed numerous roles such as lead analyst and researcher for health regulatory impact studies; project manager for information and market surveillance for public and private sector businesses; developer of programs for youths and disadvantaged populations to promote self-sufficiency; and performed a government relations role working with state and local governmental agencies and commissions.
Allison is active in her community and is a concerned global citizen. In 2016, she was appointed by Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe to the Council on Women. She is a volunteer for the YWCA of Richmond; member of The Links, Incorporated, Commonwealth Chapter; Senior Center of Greater Richmond; Children’s Museum of Virginia - Development Committee; Director, Chickahominy Bluffs Homeowners Association; Advisory Board Member, Marketing Program, Reynolds Community College; and is a National Council Member for the American Israel Political Action Committee.
